What is Kubili?
Kubili House is a an all-inclusive, exclusive-use African luxury safari adventure. Located in the Thornybush Game Reserve in the Limpopo province of South Africa, Kubili offers an unparalleled game reserve experience, both on drives and at the lodge.
Seasoned rangers and native-born trackers will take you in bespoke, open-air Land Rovers to see far more than the 'Big 5.' While wildlife, colorful birds, and serene nature are always on the horizon, driving experiences are best catered to what you want to see. When you get back from the fabulous viewing experiences, our world-class staff is there to greet you. From lavish meals at the lodge overlooking thirsty animals to bush braais amongst them, infinity swims to private open-air baths, and cultural experiences to massages, everything is catered to your dream experience.
Why Kubili?
My brother and I largely grew up away from our family in South Africa (almost all of whom still live there). We would speak to our family often, and despite being thousands of miles away, were brought up 'culturally South African.' When we did go back, we would often go to Kruger National Park, always enjoying our time spent with family and searching for animals on our own. We began to occupy this hybrid space of both worlds, feeling both American and South African in various aspects. As we grew up and developed lives, relationships, and careers in the US, we maintained a desire to have a stake in our "ancestral home country." Entering the world of game reserve ownership developed as matters of identity, family, and aspirations.
When family friends and founders of Kubili, the Koskis, asked if we may be interested in owning and developing a camp adjacent to theirs, the choice became obvious. From the start, this was more than a business endeavor, but rather a launching point for many more avenues within our interests - an opportunity to further wildlife conservation efforts, a base camp for photographic expeditions, and a chance to develop a free, local medical clinic, amongst more to come.
